Artie Lange arrested for driving under the influence in New Jersey

Torns River, NJ

Artie Lange, Howard Stern’s bawdy and boisterous sidekick, has been arrested for suspicion of DUI in Toms River, New Jersey, reports TMZ. The celebrity gossip website reports that Artie Lange was arrested after getting into a minor fender bender yesterday afternoon. Reportedly, no one was injured in the accident. News of the Artie Lange DUI has inspired legions of his fans to search the web for more information about the circumstances and details of his DUI arrest.
Artie Lange, 41, was an original member of the sketch comedy show, “MADtv.” But he is best known for replacing Jackie Martling on the Howard Stern show. Jackie Martling is a veteran stand-up comic, writer and musician who came to prominence as “Jackie the Jokeman” on Stern’s show. He left the show in 2001, however, over a salary dispute. Martling’s departure paved the way for Artie Lange to make his indelible mark on “The Howard Stern” show.

Artie Lange was in the news recently in connection with his appearance on the premiere of HBO’s “Joe Buck Live.”
Essentially, Artie Lange hijacked the show; to be more specific, Artie Lange unleashed a fusillade of expletive-ridden jokes and one-liners that suggested in no uncertain terms that both host Joe Buck and Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo are homosexuals.
HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg correctly noted that when he and the show’s producers booked Artie Lange on the show, they were taking something of a risk. He said that, ultimately, the public would decided what they thought of Artie Lange’s controversial appearance on “Joe Buck Live.”

Meanwhile, the Artie Lange arrest for suspicion of DUI adds the controversial comedian to the enormously long list of celebrities who have been arrested for the same offense.
The celebrity DUI arrest list includes, socialite Paris Hilton, actor Nick Nolte, former president George W. Bush, actress Lindsay Lohan, actor Mel Gibson, actress Vivica A. Fox, comedian Tracy Morgan, actor Rip Torn, boxer Mike Tyson, model Anna Nicole Smith, director Gus Van Sant, actress Kim Delaney, actor Aidan Quinn, comedian Tim Allen, singer Glenn Campbell, actor Keanu Reaves, actor/comedian Andy Dick, actor David Hasselhoff, actor Kelsey Grammer, rock musician David Grohl…and the list goes on and on and on.

Ross Greenburg took a risk when he booked Artie Lange on “Joe Buck Live.” And if the allegations noted above are true, Artie Lange took a risk by getting behind the wheel of a car while intoxicated.
